Catalin Burducea - Deputy General Manager, Tune Hotel Kings Cross

Catalin Burducea

Deputy General Manager, Tune Hotel Kings Cross

My name is Catalin and I started working as a Night Shift Guest Services Assistant (GSA) at the Tune Hotel in Westminster in July 2010, having just finished University the same year. Tune Westminster was the first Tune to be opened in Europe, so I was really excited to be part of an opening team. I was then transferred to Day Shift GSA after 6 months and soon after promoted to a Supervisor GSA in June 2011, so the progression was just what I wanted - providing me with increased responsibility for both the team and running of the hotel. I held this position for another year, then transferred to Tune Hotel Kings Cross as a Duty Manager in June 2012 for 2.5 years.

This Hotel was quite different because, apart from being twice as big as my previous hotel, the business mix is very different and has a larger team all of which has helped me to grow and prepare myself to deal with the day to day challenges. After being promoted to Guest Services Manager (GSM) in October 2014 I held this position for 18 months where my focus was to learn as much as possible about the managerial aspects of running a hotel. Then in March 2016, I was successful in attaining the Deputy General Manager role – this is a very demanding role but very rewarding dealing with the varied activities of business, guests and the team. I am putting lots of effort into this role, because guess what – I’ve set my sights high and I’m working towards the ‘big one’!

My career has moved with real speed and I’m delighted at my progress in the 6 years I’ve been with Queensway. I think if you want promotion, the opportunities are there for you.
