Tune Hotel Edinburgh names Deafblind Scotland as their Charity of the Year 2016/17

Tune Hotel Edinburgh are delighted to name Deafblind Scotland as their Charity of the Year 2016/17. General Manager David Aylott said “We are delighted to be supporting this Scottish charity which does invaluable work to enable deafblind people to have the permanent support and recognition necessary to be equal citizens.”

As part of Tune’s ongoing partnership with Deafblind Scotland the Tune team will be engaging in activities that not only support initiatives such as Deafblind Awareness Week in June 2016 to raise awareness of deafblind issues but will also be taking on some pretty epic fundraising challenges. Nina Smirnoff, our Sales Manager is guiding her deafblind grandfather, Michael Anderson aged 75, on a 210 mile backpacking trek from from Iona on the west coast of Scotland to St Andrews in the east. The challenge will take 16 days to complete. Michael has been blind for 40 years and wears two hearing aids and is aiming to raise an incredible £15,000 for Deafblind Scotland which will go towards the charity's "Field of Dreams" project. The 8,500 square foot purpose-built Learning and Development Centre will be a unique cutting-edge Centre of Excellence for all of Scotland. It will be a daily resource to more than 300 deafblind people in the Glasgow area, and a regular resource to the 2,700 Scottish people recorded as severely dual sensory impaired.

Michael said, “As the charity is very close to my heart I am delighted to be doing this challenge, which we have called the Michael’s Way Hike in aid of Deafblind Scotland. This is one of the toughest, yet most exhilarating challenges of my life. Knowing the money I raise will be used to improve the lives of deafblind people throughout Scotland is the best part of all."

Working in partnership with Deafblind Scotland will allow all the team at Tune Hotel Edinburgh to understand the challenges faced by deafblind people in the simplest day to day interactions and activities. This in turn will enable us to offer a better service to our customers.
